Education and Financial Market Participation

Martin Lamas | Economics | Kathleen Odell

Abstract

This research project will explore the relationship between education and financial market participation. Focusing on over 127,000 households across the country I will identify the extent to which education levels within the household contribute to the likelihood that a household participates in financial markets. This is an important question, because it exemplifies the importance of financial literacy and the benefits that arise from it. It also helps illustrate any inequalities that surround financial market participation. I will focus on the UN sustainable development goals regarding quality education and reduced inequalities.
