Effects of Public transit on Chicago's Neighborhoods

Ulises Flores | Economics | Kathleen Odell

Abstract

UN Sustainable Development Goal 11 is "Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable." This research project will explore how the addition of public transit in Chicago affects vehicle use in different neighborhoods. According to the United Nation's Department of Economic and Social affairs, only half of the world's urban population has convenient access to public transportation. This project takes an aim at Chicago's public transit infrastructure and compares how vehicle use is affected in different neighborhoods with different access and resources to public infrastructure. As Chicago continues to grow, it is important to observe how future infrastructure can improve Chicago's neighborhoods.
